Heartland Lodging has been a dream years in the making. What began as a vision to share the beauty and heritage of Heartland Bison Ranch has grown into an exciting expansion of our family's ranching operation. In 2025, Kevin and Anne took the first steps toward bringing that vision to life by beginning the development of a unique lodging experience designed to connect guests with the land, wildlife, and rich history of North Dakota's prairie.
Nestled just south of Rugby, North Dakota, Heartland Bison Ranch sits in the heart of the Prairie Pothole Region and along the Central Flyway, one of North America's most significant migration corridors for waterfowl. Every season offers something unique—from the sights and sounds of spring migration to brilliant summer sunsets, vibrant fall colors, and peaceful winter landscapes.

The ranch itself is unlike what many expect from the northern plains. Rolling hills, native prairie, shelterbelts of mature pines, wooded draws, and abundant wildlife create a landscape that is both scenic and surprisingly diverse.
